Personal profile: Padovezi Aurelio
Padovezi Aurelio
I am an agronomist who graduated from the University of São Paulo (ESALQ-USP) with a Master in Conservation of Forest Resources by the same school.
I dedicated my master's to finding evidence of how the local ecological knowledge can contribute to the conceptualization, development, and monitoring of forest restoration projects.
Professionally, for more than ten years, I have designed and implemented strategies and theories of change to promote restoration and sustainable landscapes. I worked for the implementation of the first Payment for Ecosystem Service experience in Brazil, the “Conservador da Águas” project, in Extrema, Minas Gerais. Later on, this proof of concept was upscaled to majors river basins of Brazil's southeast.
After these years of practice and dialectic experiences, I finally understood that there is no "one-size-fits-all" way capable of promoting large-scale restoration. Each Social-Ecological System presents unique challenges and opportunities that can best be met with a systematic framework for designing, planning, steering, and monitoring long term initiatives to meet diverse needs. This new way of thinking motivated me to go more in-depth on a systematic investigation to better understand the factors which influence Forest Landscape Restoration initiatives the most. For that purpose, I am dedicating my Ph.D.
I am passionate about nature. I like rock and roll and reggae music, and - of course - samba and Brazilian carnival. In my free time, I like to spend time with my family and friends. I am also a beekeeper, and I love to make and drink mead.
