I am a board certified specialist veterinary pathologist (DiplECVP), graduated with a DVM from the University of Teramo (Italy) in 2002 and a PhD in Ultrastructural Pathology in 2006. Before joining UQ in 2012, I have been working as an assistant professor/senior lecturer in Veterinary Pathology at the University of Teramo (Italy). My specific research interest is in small animal oncology, comparative pathology, in particular canine prostate cancer, and veterinary oncoepidemiology. I am Chair of the canine prostate cancer subgroup at the Oncology Pathology Working Group (OPWG), Australian representative and co-coordinator of the Global Initiative for Veterinary Cancer Surveillance (GIVCS) committee for the establishment of international standards of veterinary cancer registration and team leader of the comparative oncology theme of the Queensland Alliance of One Health Science. I am past President of the Australian Society for Veterinary Pathology and member of several organisations, including the CL Davis Foundation for the advancement of Veterinary and Comparative Pathology, the European Society of Veterinary Oncology, the International Society of Urological Pathology and the European Association of Cancer Research. I have been postgraduate coursework coordinator of the School of Veterinary Science from 2014 to 2017, HDR coordinator from 2017 to 2019 and Director of Research from 2019 to 2021, as well as serving as a member of the Research and HDR committees. I am currently coordinating one BVSc and two MVSc courses and teaching general pathology, system pathology and diagnostic pathology for a total of 12 undergraduate and postgraduate courses. I have 17 years expertise in veterinary diagnostic pathology, histopathology, IHC and TEM in multiple species. Since my first academic appointment in 2005, I mentored several postgraduate and undergraduate students in diagnostic investigation of animal cancer and research in canine oncology. Although outside the field of comparative oncology, I also have a unique expertise in avian pathology and transmission electron microscopy.
